In May, we welcomed Dahaba Ali Hussain and Deeqo Shire to the ROTA team. Both Dahaba and Deeqo bring a wealth of experience, working in the racial justice and research field.

Dahaba Ali Hussain | ROTA Associate

Dahaba Ali Hussen is a journalist and researcher with a decade of experience working at the intersection of media, policy, and social justice. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, she began her career as a political journalist and has since reported for the BBC, The Guardian, The Financial Times, and The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, among others. Her investigative work has focused on structural inequalities and has consistently amplified underrepresented voices.

Dahaba brings extensive experience in research and communications, having led and contributed to projects with the European Union, the University of Sheffield, and several community-rooted organisations. Her research centres on race, migration, and democratic participation, combining rigorous methodology with an unwavering commitment to equity.

Born in the Netherlands to Somali parents and now based in London, Dahaba draws on her own lived experience as an immigrant from a low-income background. Her personal journey – including periods of homelessness – deeply informs her work and fuels her dedication to transformative change.

She was recently appointed as a Research Associate at Race on the Agenda, where she continues to interrogate the root causes of racial injustice and advocate for meaningful policy reform through evidence-based research and strategic storytelling.

Deeqo Shire | Communications and
Policy Officer

Deeqo joins ROTA as our new Communications and Policy Officer. Deeqo brings experience from leading creative agencies, where she worked at the intersection of storytelling, social change, and strategy.

Her career has been driven by a deep commitment to social impact, from leading communications on the Mayor of London’s first-ever campaign against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), to reshaping public understanding of autism.

Deeqo has consistently used her voice and expertise to amplify underrepresented issues. With a strong passion for anti-racism and equity, she joins us at Race on the Agenda.
