Fevzi Hussein
Fevzi is an activist. A campaigner. A trade unionist and committed anti-racist. He is the son of Turkish Cypriot migrants. He has been active in the trade union movement for over three decades and always seeks to push a positive race agenda at work and in society. He is a passionate community activist and co-Chairs an action group linked to Tottenham Park Cemetery which has recently been successful in lobbing the MoJ to issue an order preventing further burials (unless these are reserved plots). He resided as Chair of the GMB’s Race self-organised group and played an important role in delivering several high-profile events, engaging on a large scale with black trade union members.
From a humanitarian angle, Fevzi is currently a Trustee at the CWUHA (Communication Workers Union Humanitarian Aid) charity and drove to Moldova in a Royal Mail convoy to bring supplies to a Disability Centre which the CWU helped to build. The CWUHA also supports a school in Moshi, Tanzania, ensuring that over 400 children have access to education. This was enabled by facilitating a repair to a well near the school which had previously remained closed for several years due to lack of access to water.
Finally, Fevzi is a regular visitor to Calais and Dunkirk bringing much need aid to refugees, working with international charities such as Care4Calais and Refugee Community Kitchen. In his spare time he runs a ‘punchy’ political affairs podcast called Bandofla. It will be an honour to join the trustee team, if I am given this opportunity.
