Dr Ariel Breaux

Dr. Breaux Torres is a mental health expert and Licensed Clinical Psychologist/Health Service Provider of Psychology in Indiana and in Illinois. Dr. Breaux Torres is passionate about and committed to race equity and racial justice. She currently serves as the Head of Mental Health Equity for Mind, the mental health charity. Additionally, she was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, with a focus on issues such as coloniality and racism within psychology education/training/practice.

Prior to relocating to London, Dr. Breaux Torres worked and trained within various correctional and state hospital systems, working with both juveniles and adults, providing and overseeing clinical services as well as conducting forensic evaluations. Within those settings she worked to utilize strengths based and empowerment approaches, in collaboration with clients, to create environments more conducive to meaningful change. In addition to clinical work she has assisted in program evaluation, modification, and implementation, as well as policy evaluation and staff training targeted at addressing antiracism and systemic inequities within prisons and adjacent systems.

As for other professional endeavours, in service to the American Psychology-Law Society through committee appointments, Dr. Breaux Torres assisted in drafting and piloting the Diversity Liaison position for the Student Committee, led a conversation series centered around racial equity, and developed a subsequent dialogue series to create space for actionable change that coincides with efforts to dismantle white supremacy and oppressive systems. Currently, Dr. Breaux Torres serves on the Early Career Professional and Practice committees of AP-LS. She continues to give talks and workshops on topics such as health equity, workplace wellbeing for staff of colour, antiracism, microaggressions, diversity in psychology, and whiteness and mental health.

Dr. Breaux Torres is also a founding member of the Black Mental Health and Wellbeing Alliance, a group who has created and launched the Black Mental Health Manifesto in the UK.
