ROTA STATEMENT: On the Manchester Synagogue attack

We are shocked and saddened by the Manchester synagogue attacks on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and the Jewish community during this horrific time. The rise in antisemitism and hate crime more generally is unacceptable.

We urge mainstream media, social media companies, and politicians from across the political spectrum to act responsibly in their responses and rhetoric.

Harm inflicted on one community ripples across society and deepens the wounds of racialised and marginalised groups.

We therefore must come together to tackle divisive and hateful narratives towards all communities as it only leads to violence in wider society.

The problem cannot be solved through division; it can only be addressed through community cohesion and solidarity.
