ROTA is pleased to announce the re-issue of the Report on Informal Exclusions from School.  We apologise for the delay. After the release of the Report in February 2022, some references and sources were updated and others added for clarification.

This Report presents findings from desk research, Freedom of Information requests, interviews, focus groups and round table events conducted by Race on the Agenda (ROTA) from July 2019 to August 2020.

6 new laws and how they will impact our communities

As Parliament closes for the Spring recess, an avalanche of new legislation is to become law.  Much of it will have an impact on Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities in the UK.

Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with all that is going on, especially if you are already battling the system in your own specific area, so ROTA has produced a brief summary of the Bills that have either been passed or are about to be passed.

ROTA teamed up with the Migrant Rights Network to host a conference looking at Race, Religion and Refugee policy in the UK.

We were joined by investigative journalist Halima Salat and Author of ’The Hostile Environment’, Maya Goodfellow and together we explored the intersection of race and migration policy.

MIND are looking for people with lived experience to join two groups that will guide mental health charity Mind’s policy and campaigns work:

• Policy and campaigns race equity steering group – to help us set the direction of our policy and campaigns work on race equity. 
  

This is to help us influence changes to the Mental Health Act so that they work for young people. It’s for young people aged 14-25, based in England or Wales, who have experience of going into hospital for their mental health, either sectioned or informally, when they were aged under 18. It takes 5-15 minutes to complete. The survey is available here (in English) and here in Welsh. It will be open until 29 May.

The Fore is offering unrestricted grants of up to £30,000 that can be spread over one to three years. The grants can be used for whatever grantees think will help transform their scale, sustainability, reach or efficiency. Any UK-registered charities, CICs or CBSs with annual incomes under £500,000 are welcome to apply.  Once organisations have registered, they will have until Monday 9th May at 5pm to complete their applications.
