Training Day one - 21st March: Complying with the Equality Act 2010

- learn who is protected under the Equality Act 2010;
- learn what types of behaviour and discrimination are unlawful;
- review their own organisation’s policies and procedures and identify any changes needed in order to comply with the Equality Act 2010;

Training Day two 27th March: Using the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) 

- learn to use the PSED to advance equality for BME&R people by holding public authorities to account;
- Explore different methods of obtaining and using data to identify inequality faced by BME&R people within public services.
- learn to evidence the need for public authorities to work in collaboration with community organisations in order to meet the PSED, which has implications for how public authorities fund and commission services.

FREE for all voluntary/community groups based in London. 

On 17th January 2018, Race on the Agenda and London Metropolitan University presented the launch of Dr Suman Fernando's recent book - Institutional Racism in Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology: Race Matters in Mental Health.

Dr Fernando is an Honorary Professor at London Metropolitan University and formerly consultant psychiatrist in the NHS.

The event was chaired by John Gabriel, Senior Professor at London Metropolitan University, who is the author of Whitewash: Racialized Politics and the Media, as well as co-author of Race and Power: Global racism in the twenty-first century.

The event was then led by speakers Colin King, a Mental health survivor researcher and practitioner, and Yvonne Christie an Activist in the field of Black mental health and race equality.

The conference will feature Afua Hirsch who will be talking about Race Equality in the 21st century and her new book "Brit(ish): On Race, Identity and Belonging".

The conference will take place from 7.15pm - 8.15pm at Resource for London, following the AGM at 6.30pm

“As part of ROTA’s equality law project, we are currently designing a workshop series on employment rights and anti-discrimination law, aimed at young people from BAME and migrant backgrounds.

The objective of the workshops is to discuss the issues participants may face in the workplace in order to find ways to collectively address these, and to build the knowledge and skills to do so.”

Leilani Farha, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing, hosted by Baroness Jane Campbell of Surbiton DBE, in conversation with people affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

The Grenfell Tragedy is a human and a human rights disaster. At this event Ms Farha and others will explore the human rights problems that led up to and compounded the effects of this terrible event. What questions does human rights law provoke and what answers does it offer? What must the Government do to make sure it meets its human rights commitments and respects the human right to housing?

Please join Voice4Change England (V4CE) and the Migrants’ Rights Network (MRN) to discuss our new research into how to invest in social justice by strengthening working across race equality, migrants’ rights, refugee and faith issues.
