I am delighted to share some exciting updates with you in this edition. We are thrilled to announce the appointment of our new CEO, Matthew Johnson, who brings a wealth of experience and vision to our organisation.

Additionally, we have secured 10-year core funding, ensuring our stability and growth for the foreseeable future. We are also excited to launch the ROTA Community Partnership Research on January 30, 2025, funded by Propel London.

Furthermore, our second podcast episode is now live, offering engaging discussions on key topics.

We invite you to join our housing project by attending our webinar on February 12, 2025. Your participation will be invaluable as we work together to address critical housing issues.

ROTA Appoints Matthew Johnson as New Chief Executive

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Johnson as our new Chief Executive.

Matthew brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a proven track record in income generation, exceptional leadership, and an ability to inspire teams and individuals to achieve their best.

He has consistently demonstrated a talent for fostering environments that encourage innovation and collaborative thinking, empowering organisations to thrive in dynamic and challenging contexts.

5 days till the ROTA Community Research Partnership - Report Launch on 30 January 2025

Now only 5days to go, ROTA invites you to celebrate the launch publication of first ROTA Community Research Partnership (RCRP) report, co-produced with eight Peer Researchers from across London.

Join us to hear more about their projects investigating how issues of racial injustice and inequity have affected Black and Global Majority Londoners in the areas of education and employment, and what we can do to collectively drive change in these sectors.

Episode 1 of our Talking About Race podcast, was released earlier this month

Our host, Kulvinder Nagre was joined by Lady Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, the Co-Founder and Chief Executive of UK Black Pride, and Alba Kapoor, Head of Policy at the Runnymede Trust, to discuss Black History Month, along with wider issues around the ways in which Black histories are discussed, marginalised, and misrepresented in the UK.

Update on the Renters Rights Bill 2025

During ROTA’s research on housing, homelessness and race discrimination, the Renters Rights Bill 2024-2025 has been going through Parliament. 

In December 2024 ROTA made a written representation to the Renters Rights Bill Impact Assessment Team pointing out that people from B&GM communities were among those most likely to be affected by housing discrimination.

ROTA selected in Media Trust’s 2025 ‘Telling Your Stories’ scheme

We are delighted to announce that we have been selected to take part in the Media Trust’s 2025 ‘Telling Your Stories’ scheme, proudly supported by the City Bridge Foundation. 

Over the next year, we will be working with the team at the Media Trust to produce a short film about the work that we are doing with our outstanding Peer Researchers with the ROTA Community Research Partnership.

We are thrilled to announce that ROTA  has successfully secured a 10-year core grant from the City Bridge Foundation's Anchor Programme.

This significant funding will enable us to continue our vital work in promoting racial equality and social justice across the UK.

UK Poverty 2025: the essential guide for understanding poverty in the UK

Every year the UK Poverty report published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation offers a comprehensive analysis of poverty in the UK. The report draws on a range of data to identify who is most affected, how poverty levels have changed over time, and what lies ahead. The report provides an in-depth look at overall poverty rates, deep poverty and persistent poverty, and how these vary between different groups across the UK (including family type, ethnicity, disability, housing, work and benefit receipt).
