CORE have written to Health Secretary Matt Hancock to address the recent review by Public Health England into the racial disproportionality of COVID-19 deaths.

They argue that the government-commissioned report tells us what we already know – that BAME individuals and their communities are more likely to die from COVID-19. However, what CORE finds disappointing, is that the report contains no recommendations about what should be done about this emerging national tragedy.

CORE supports demands for a full public enquiry into this issue and believe that only a comprehensive strategy to address race equality across all Government services will be able to properly address these underlying racial disparities. However, they believe that the Government must show some action now in supporting BAME communities and ensuring that key workers are better protected. Read the letter HERE.
