Sharon Dennis
Sharon Dennis, RMN, BSc (Hons), CMS, RNT, Dip Family Therapy, Dip Performance Coaching (Business), PG Dip Advanced Practice (Nursing). Sharon is Regional Director at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN). Prior to joining the RCN, Sharon has worked in London mental health for 20 years. She specialised in acute inpatient care which included working as a family therapist. She also worked in practice development, teaching and professional leadership roles before becoming Director of Nursing & Public Involvement. Sharon’s publications include those on professional nursing issues and observation. She has also contributed to Department of Health policy documents such as ‘Addressing Acute Concerns’ and the Mental Health Policy Implementation Guide –Developing Positive Practice to Support the Safe and Therapeutic Management of Aggression and Violence in Mental Health Inpatient Settings’. She has been a steering committee member of the RCN’s Mental Health Forum and a Nursing Ambassador for the Nursing Standard magazine. She was a member of the NHS Confederation/RCN joint BAME Forum and the Chief Nursing Officer’s and NHS Chief Exec’s Senior BAME Groups. Sharon has recently been a Guest Editor for Special Issues of the Nursing Standard which celebrates Black History Month. This won the Race in the Media Award (Specialist Publications) in 2006.
