Race on the Agenda

National and regional governance

ROTA works to influence decisions which impact on BAME communities at a regional and national level, with much of the work ROTA carries out locally having implications at the national level. London is a complex city in regards to social policy and governance. We have the Government Office for London (GOL) feeding down from central government and London Council feeding up from the boroughs. Alongside this there is the Strategic Health Authorities at a sub-regional level and the boroughs themselves at a local level. We then have the London-wide Greater London Authority and its associated bodies such as the London Development Agency and the Metropolitan Police Association, as well as regional bodies like the Learning and Skills Council. Links to these and others can be found on the Links page.

ROTA creates channels of communication and aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of how government works in London for BAME communities. By sitting at the policy table ROTA is able to work with and influence regional policy makers to take on the needs, aspirations, contributions and concerns of London's BAME third sector. To meet this end ROTA is a member of a number of working and steering groups.

ROTA has also contributed widely to a number of related consultations.
